Plumber Trade Profile:

Plumbers plan, install and service plumbing systems, fixtures, piping equipment and controls. These piping systems may be used to transport water, waste, gases or hot liquids.

Plumbing/Gas Fitting is one of the "pipe trades". Pipe trades deal with the installation, maintenance and repair of piping systems. To be successful in the trade, plumbers need physical stamina required to lift heavy pipes, mechanical ability and the ability to work either alone or with others. The term of apprenticeship is four years during which you would receive on the job training and eight weeks of classroom training each year.

Sheet Metal Worker Trade Profile

Sheet metal workers design, fabricate, assemble, install and repair the sheet metal products. Sheet metal workers use many types of metal including black and galvanized steel, copper, brass, nickel, stainless steel, aluminum and tin plate to make products.

To be successful, sheet metal workers need good physical condition, mechanical aptitude, eye-hand coordination, spatial and form perception, good eyesight and manual dexterity. You also need the ability to visualize a finished product from a drawing, the ability to stand for long periods, perform moderately heavy lifting and carrying and to possibly work in high, awkward and noisy places.

The term of apprenticeship is four years during which you would receive on the job training and ten weeks of classroom training each year.
